Umatilla, the Gateway to the Ocala National Forest, is located in northern Lake County, Florida and offers many outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, camping and hiking. Nearby Alexander Springs features the southern end of the Florida Trail, an unpaved hiking trail 60 miles long.

Umatilla was founded in 1856 by Nathan J. Trowell. The name was taken from an Oregon town of the same name, and Indian name meaning “laughing waters”.  The area was incorporated on November 8, 1904.

The Friends of the Library host a City-Wide Yard Sale each year on the first Saturday in March. The date for this event is March 3, 2012.

The Greater Lake Youth Athletic Program will hold the 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Cadwell Park. Chili Cook Off hours are 5pm-10pm.

Umatilla is home to the Florida Black Bear Festival, a fun and educational annual event. This year's festival is being held on
Saturday, March 31, 2012.

The North Lake Relay for Life Chicken Wing Cook Off will be held in Cadwell Park on Saturday, October 20, 2012, from 5 pm -- 9pm. For more information on team sign ups, call (352)267-0149.

The Cracker Christmas Parade and Dog Jog is an annual event that is being held on December 8, 2012. An Arts & Crafts festival in Cadwell Park follows the parade.
