Public Information Meeting Segment 1 Wekiva Trail

Notification of Public Information Meeting for Segment 1 of the Wekiva Trail PD&E Study

The Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) invites you to a public information meeting on Thursday, March 17 at the Mount Dora Community Building located at 520 North Baker Street in Mount Dora.

The meeting is an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Maps, drawings and other project information will be on display at the meeting. A brief presentation will start at 6:15 p.m. Representatives from the study team will be available during the meeting to discuss the project and answer questions.

The purpose of the meeting is to present information and receive public input regarding the recommended alternative for Segment 1 of the Wekiva Trail. The ongoing Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study includes the Wekiva Trail from Tremain Street to Hojin Street. Information regarding the entire Wekiva Trail will be available at the public information meeting. However, the recommended alternative for the portion of the trail within Segment 1 from Tremain Street in Mount Dora to SR 46 in Sorrento will be the primary focus of the public meeting scheduled on March 17.

The objective of the PD&E study is to develop preferred alignment and concept plans for the design and construction of the proposed multi-use trail. The trail will be designed to accommodate a range of non-motorized uses including cycling, hiking, running, skating, wildlife viewing, and equestrian in appropriate areas. Within Segment 1, trail alternatives were developed in collaboration with the City of Mount Dora Historic Preservation Board and local stakeholders.  Trail alternatives were developed which minimized impacts to the historic bridges and railroad.  The evaluation of the trail alternatives together with the recommended alternative will be presented at the meeting.
